Page 4 - MGHA Annual Report, 2023
P. 4

In my first letter as MGHA chair at the end of 2021, I shared my hope for what our association would accomplish over the next 12 months, recognizing our industry’s resilience and ability to evolve while still making significant positive impacts in our regions
and state. I’m so proud of where we are today and
I think all would agree we had a year for the books with remarkable gaming numbers, the launch of on- site mobile sports wagering and valuable reinvestment throughout the State of Mississippi.
2022 served as a reminder that the gaming industry truly has unlimited potential. We celebrated 30
years of legalized casino gaming in Mississippi with strong gaming revenues, including some regions
even outperforming unprecedented 2021 numbers.
We finally saw on-site mobile sports betting come to
fruition, introducing an entirely new experience to our guests and generating significant new revenue for our state. While we know there is more we can do to expand mobile sports betting to keep tax dollars here in Mississippi and generate more jobs, we’ve made strong strides this year.
We also thanked our guests for their continued patronage through significant reinvestment. In order to stay competitive, compaies to date have invested close to $5.618 billion in their properties here. They will continue to reinvest and update their properties as competition grows in the region.
I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge our industry’s continued profound economic impact on our cities, counties, and overall state. Throughout 2022, our revenue helped speed up Mississippi’s recovery, and we should all be incredibly proud of the 16,000 jobs and $617 million of wages we supply families throughout our regions, not to mention the dollars we generate towards our state’s education fund.
As we close out 2022, I’d like to take a moment to welcome our newly appointed
2023 MGHA Chair, Penny Bankston. I know we’re in good hands under your guidance
and leadership. Thank you to all casinos and associate members for your unwavering commitment towards supporting our local, regional, and state efforts. Our industry’s success and future accomplishments are only possible if we work together as a united group.
Thank you,
Anthony Del Vescovo
