“The work of the artist is to lift up people’s hearts and help them endure.” William Faulkner
Along with a plethora of galleries, shops and venues, Hancock County has art festivals and art- themed celebrations throughout the year. Annual events include Pirate Day in the Bay, Under the Flower Moon, the Diamondhead Arts & Crafts Festival, the Literary Arts Festival, and Arts Alive. There is also a monthly Second Saturday Art
Walk in Bay St. Louis, which continues to grow in popularity with each event held. These events draw attendees from near and far, and give a boost to local businesses.
“The arts and culture scene in Hancock County is thriving,” said John Anderson, board president of The Arts, Hancock County. “Over the last year we’ve added eight murals in Old Town Bay St. Louis through the Wall to Wall Festival, expanded the scope of the Arts Alive Festival, and are in
the process of renovating the former location of the legendary Carter Church Studio. “We are optimistic about the future of Hancock County’s creative economy and look forward to seeing it grow.”
Faulkner’s quote above rings true all these years later. Art enhances our quality of life, boosts our economy and lifts our spirits. It reminds us of what is possible, gives us hope and reminds us to appreciate our gifts. To that end, we invite you to come and enjoy the arts scene in Hancock County. We guarantee that you will feel rejuvenated and inspired. You may even want to make Hancock County your home.
