Disability Connection (DC) is the Coast’s leading provider of Community Resource Guides to support the community and connect agencies in the southern six counties of Mississippi who serve the most at-risk of our population. The organization’s mission is “Creating a Connected Community to provide social support, ensure healthy futures, eliminate barriers, and foster cooperation for people with disabilities.”
DC provides events, programs, and special projects through Community Assist. Staff are trained as Resource Specialists
and assist callers through using one of DC’s eight Community Resource Guides. Three current guides are interactive and downloadable at www.DisabilityConnection.org: 2021 MS Coast Community Resource Guide, 2023 Family Resource Guide, and TRACK (A Transition Resource to advocate Through Community Knowledge) to assist students with disabilities to prepare to transition out of the school system. In 2023, DC will publish and distribute two additional Guides, a Career Success Guide, and the 2023 MS Coast Community Resource Guide.
Additional programs include Supported Employment, a licensed program through the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. DC provides training, transportation, and jobs for individuals with intellectual disabilities who qualify.
At www.DisabilityConnection.org you can also enjoy DC’s Mississippi Coast Heritage Information Center, developed to encourage people to explore South Mississippi. It includes DC’s 45 film documentaries and 160 pages of heritage information.
The next Disability Connection event is the 15th annual Arbor Day Run/Walk/Roll for Disability Awareness at Biloxi Town Green in February 2023.
