 GIVING BACK
Center Stage Theatre
story by Victoria Snyder photos courtesy of Center Stage Theatre
   In 1975, Center Stage Theatre held its first performance – Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, in a converted auto-body shop off of Cowan Road. While a new theatre was built in 1989, the goal of Center Stage remains the same: to provide quality entertainment to residents of the Gulf Coast, to bring laughter or tears
to the audience’s eyes, and to provide a wonderful escape from reality with high quality productions.
As their mission statement says, “Center Stage strives to provide professional quality theatre to the widest audience possible; to encourage a forum for talents and skills of all ages and ethnic groups; to further arts education by a commitment to artistic excellence, community outreach, and diverse participation;
to entertain patrons and to provoke thought.”
For over 45 years, Center Stage has been helping to keep the arts alive on the Gulf Coast. They have brought in senior citizens to attend dress rehearsals to see
a play or musical for free, and invite aspiring youth actors to polish their skills.
With the help of community support and grant programs, Center Stage hopes to be a part of the community for many years to come. You can purchase season tickets on their website, or buy tickets to individual performances.
