LETTER from the editor
The beautiful October weather in South Mississippi is wonderful after the long hot summer and lends itself to getting outside. Outdoor activities abound, including numerous festivals and special events.
None is more special than Cruisin’ the Coast, the country’s largest block party. Thousands of visitors and cool vehicles come to call and soak up the hospitality of South Mississippi. We’ve included the Cruisin’ schedule of events so readers can keep track of what’s going on.
Thank you so much for the review of our cookbook Deep South
Dish by Mary Foreman in the August issue. The article reads so wonderfully well and sums up the book perfectly.

I can’t tell you enough how much we appreciate your partnership on the Women Entrepreneurs program. We could not put these valuable programs on without the support
of sponsors like you. You and your team are absolute treasures to the MS Gulf Coast Chamber. Thank you.

12 SOUTH MISSISSIPPI Living • October 2015
Also in this month’s edition
is the official
guide for the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival. This event — Mississippi’s largest festival — does not take place until November
7 and 8, but the guide can provide advance planning to see which of your favorite artists are returning and check out a few new ones.

For the first
time, we have a Cancer Awareness & Survivors special section. It’s full of information, statistics and encouraging hope from those who’ve overcome this disease.
The art story is about the late Marie Hull, one of Mississippi’s most beloved painters whose legacy and influence live on. Although it’s a long drive to Jackson where a large retrospective of her work is on exhibit at the Mississippi Museum of Art, Coast residents like to know about cultural events in other parts of the state. After the first of the year, the show goes to the Ogden Museum in New Orleans which is not such a long drive.
Another art story is in the Leisure section because a mother/daughter team at the Gulf Coast School of Art are showing young people a fulfilling way to spend some leisure time. These ladies are inspired by their faith and using it to inspire others.
Youth soccer is big in South Mississippi. In a story in the Sports & Outdoor section we learn how many clubs there are and the large number of boys and girls participating.
Each month we present a wide variety of Coast Notes, calendar events, dining reviews, feature stories and much more. This month is no exception. Look, read, enjoy!
